A note from Meghan, “When I was 12, I had Guillain-Barre syndrome.  This is an auto-immune disease that attacks the nerves, resulting in paralysis.  After much physical therapy and work, I attained functionality and eventually, a (mostly) full recovery. Because of this experience, I intimately understand the impact of structural issues on an individuals well-being.  I deal with the consequences of the disease everyday of my life, but I have found ways to live a full, healthy life.  This was not an easy path and I often encountered people (especially doctors) telling me I needed to accept the status quo.  I didn’t agree and started my own journey investigating alternative therapies, such as massage and acupuncture.  After pursing a BA in Anthropology (medical) from Michigan State, I found that I wanted to do more than just study how people took care of themselves.  I wanted to help others find the tools to help themselves.  I struggled with finding the right answer.  I wanted to find a path that would leave me intellectually challenged and still contribute to people’s everyday well-being.  The answer was massage.

This struggle was intensified when I was diagnosed with endometriosis and infertility.  This was one of darkest periods of my life, but it clarified my desire to help others achieve balance to attain better health.  I found the fertility treatments offered to me through conventional routes to be very hard on my body, soul and overall well-being, but continued down this path until the birth of my first child.  I wanted more children, but I was unwilling to use the same methods.  I read an article in a magazine about Mayan Abdominal Massage.  I went to a training session, performed the massage on myself for 2 months and was pregnant by the third month.  I knew this was something I must learn more about.  I spent the next year investigating and learning fertility treatments, including Arvigo Technique of Maya Abdominal Massage.  It became my dream to provide a space for woman and men to find support, fertility counseling, and holistic treatments to achieve balance in life.”
